We asked: “What would you like the next council to do differently?”

We received 411 responses to the survey, and 350 to this particular question. The responses, which have been edited only for grammar and spelling, appear in the order in which we received the completed surveys. Five responses were not included because they came in after the September 7 deadline.

  1. Keep us informed
  2. Help out the seasonal residents. Like paying too much for water use that we only use for two months. Not fair. We are half the residents paying full price. Time some addresses this and make it fair. We love our community and so many beautiful people in tiny. If it’s gets too expensive, we will need to sell. We need a new council that works for all of us and listens.
  3. Listen
  4. Reduce property taxes.
  5. Keep taxes down
  6. Ensure the beach stays private for Deanlea residents.
  7. Reduce spending
  8. Abandon the new proposed Town Council Office
    1. Kill the shoreline setback by-law.
    2. Stop the new township municipal building construction. 3) Ask the residents before undertaking large cost municipal projects.
  9. Everything.
  10. Listen to the residents more, make better financial decisions, stop hiring so much.
  11. The shoreline by-law needs to be properly researched and written. It should not be a money grab. The new municipal building needs to be scaled appropriately for the population of the township.
  12. Be accountable, not spend needlessly, and stop the shoreline by-law.
  13. Don’t interfere with an owner’s right to rent out their property. Lower taxes, don’t build frivolous things like a new admin building.
  14. Transparency, lower taxes, road maintenance
  15. Repeal the shoreline by-law
  16. Listen to their constituents’ priorities and be open, accountable and transparent around policy decisions.
  17. Stop making decisions without consideration of what the people want and need
  18. Be more open
  19. Leave property rights to the residents
  20. Make public the plans for the new administration building
  21. I would like the community to be less aggressive in their interactions with Council. The interest group ‘leaders’ have their own agenda. Council does need to work on communication when changes are made to policies and practices.
  22. Remove the hidden agendas.
  23. Not spending our tax money on unnecessary costly administrative building on very expensive prime lot. Raising taxes!
  24. Open timely reports of council decisions.
  25. Represent the people and stop forming their agenda.
  26. Much better community engagement
  27. Fix shoreline setback
  28. Kill 45-metre shoreline idiocy … Show how they listen … Activate zero budgeting!
  29. Improve infrastructure. Reduce acrimony in a more mature fashion and stop spreading rumour and hearsay. Organize Town Halls and listen to residents’ concerns and questions.
  30. Work cohesively and communicate transparently, with a focus on financial responsibility and local infrastructure (roads, septage) improvement.
  31. Listen to the people. Make the roads safer during winter months. Maintenance of ditches for water runoff. Better enforcement of current by-laws. Stop spending money like it’s theirs.
  32. Accountable to residents, transparent and give us some tax savings
  33. Listen to the residents of Tiny and base decisions on what they hear. Residents need to be involved and accountable, transparent, accessible and informed decision-making is essential for all residents.
  34. Be fiscally responsible. Listen to the residents
  35. Listen to the residents and follow through on issues they say are important
  36. Listen to the people! Don’t spring a huge spending project on us after the election after not asking for a mandate. Protect the shoreline
  37. Review of lawsuits and by-laws. Treating people (customers) respectfully. Being financially responsible.
  38. Public consultation for large infrastructure expenditures.
  39. Cut unnecessary bureaucracy
  40. Listen to the taxpayer
  41. Listen to residents; be less autocratic. Change the shoreline new build/permit rules. Get cellular systems in place.
  42. Think about its residents, both full-time and part-time. Work on creating businesses that allow for tourism. Stop wasting our money on building and by-laws that cost thousands of dollars to residents.
  43. Provide things for young families living here year-round. Young families when try to get their children into swimming lessons have to wait in line to register them for hockey or swim lessons behind the townspeople such as in Midland or Wasaga. If you felt we should have built such a large administration building maybe you should have built one as a community centre with an area of offices, etc. The weight room that is being built for employees should be open to the community, not just employees.
  44. Put in speed bumps along the concession roads starting at 40km signs.
  45. Control costs and reduce property taxes given we do not have very many services.
    1. Stop the build.
    2. Reduce property taxes or at least stop the increase of property taxes.
  46. Permits better explained and zoning
  47. Eliminate or ignore the entitled unwholesome pressure from FoTTSA!
  48. Listen to residents and actually hear them!! Allow dialogue more openly.
  49. Property taxes keep going up but I’m not seeing any additional benefits.
  50. Explain the rationale behind building such a big municipal building? If Tiny is to house a large increase in full-time residents, where is the new housing anticipated to be built? • The roads on the way to my cottage look fine (better condition than Toronto) but they get paved and I wonder why is taxpayer money being spent to do that? I think Tiny’s taxes should be reduced. Can Council educate residents on the importance of maintaining the dune system, so they understand why it is a bad idea to bulldoze their dunes? (It is causing the sand to blow out of the beaches and into neighbouring properties). • Protect our natural heritage. If Tiny is projected to have greater population numbers, it is time to consider sewage treatment options like a centralized treatment system — that is something I wouldn’t resent paying taxes to build. • The issue of residential mosquito treatments that cause broad-spectrum killing of all insects needs to be addressed. There are residents that are waking up to the damage this is causing to the environment.
  51. Stop spending money like drunken sailors and stop hiding from the taxpayers … Everything they do should be in the open and with the public’s involvement…
  52. It be a slate. Differing perspectives create great innovation and debate for township evolution.
  53. Listen to concerns of constituents
  54. Remember that they answer to taxpayers. Stop the build for one.
  55. Use tax revenue responsibly — do not build a lavish new administration building.
  56. Revise shoreline by-law back to 15m. Be more open and responsive to the community.
  57. LISTEN to the people and stop the new building from happening. Keep taxes low to attract new homebuyers relocating from the GTA. • Explore new revenue strategies including a data centre where we can negotiate the terms for allowing the building to exist, i.e. aggressively negotiate for 100% property tax relief for x amount of years, 0 taxpayer expense for their water and hydro, build roads and maintain Township infrastructure … ask for the world and negotiate for top 5 “wants” and walk away if “wants” are not met!
  58. Listen to the constituents. Stop making big decisions in secret. Fix the roads.
  59. Reverse the latest shoreline building restriction by-laws.
  60. Minimal government to manage only what is absolutely necessary, not spend taxpayer money needlessly, and not create unnecessary laws such as a shoreline by-law that are not needed, ever, for the 99% of beachfront owners who only return the sand blown onto their property back to the beach and has been the practice since forever. And for perhaps in the 1% of beachfront outliers that manage the shoreline unreasonably, let neighbours report this to the town who would rule beach management on a case-by-case basis, which may necessitate Council to put in more time/work. This case-by-case kind of individual scrutiny makes more sense than painting everyone with a broad brush and requiring a marine report, approval and a fee and which is just an insult to the intelligence of owners and defies common sense.
  61. Stop wasting money on unaffordable vanity projects like the new administrative town hall. Stop building it and look for economic offramps to halt the wasteful build completely, or alternatively to convert any existing build to a more modest and minimalist building; or in the 3d alternative stop building and sell off the property. • Also, stop litigating against the residents. Stop the wasteful and litigious shoreline by-law increases which serve no purpose. • Provide more accountable government rather than starting fights with its own residents and trying to bar anyone with alternative views from council meetings.
  62. Be upfront about costs that need to be spent and explain the reasons to the taxpayers. Use debates to discuss contentious issues and referendums to guide decisions if needed.
  63. Be open and accountable
  64. No tax hikes
  65. Shoreline protection and access
  66. Listen to the people when obviously the majority of the people were against the new build; the new build should never had been built. Obviously, Council is highly corrupt.
  67. Focus on spending tax dollars on things that benefit the vast MAJORITY of its citizens
  68. Listen to concerns with an open and honest agenda
  69. Manage the new building effectively, for example renting out part of building to bring in income. Some of our roads in Tiny need to be paved. Keep our taxes increase at a lower %.
  70. Reduce the overreach, stop harassing owners, resolve legal battles, more transparency, more community engagement in major decisions.
  71. Review by-laws. Review budgets. Change the dynamic beach rules so that it makes more sense as all properties are different.
  72. Behave honestly, have principles and integrity, and respect all Tiny residents
  73. Represent all Tiny constituents fairly. Taxes are paid equally by all and so seasonal and non-seasonal residents should have an equal say regardless of the length of time they spend in Tiny. If this is not the case taxes should be paid according to time spent in Tiny.
  74. Stop the proposed new shoreline law
  75. Actually listen to their constituents
  76. Not bring in big expenditures that they did not disclose were coming last election time, i.e. hidden agenda. Unforgiveable, never to be forgotten.
  77. Listen to the ratepayers, keep spending in line to keep taxes low, forget about the shoreline new rules, stick to the basics.
  78. Stop ego projects
  79. STOP WASTING MONEY, especially on the new Taj Mahal office building
  80. Consult with taxpayers. Be more transparent.
  81. Listen to constituents.
  82. Repurpose the new admin building and deal with the debt we have incurred
  83. Manage the business, not agendas
  84. Listen to the taxpayers.
  85. Listen to the residents of Tiny. Stop bulldozing their personal agendas. Be fiscally responsible stewards of the Township’s finances.
  86. Implement and better communicate measures that keep Tiny affordable but also maintain necessary services.
    1. Stop the absurd shoreline rules.
    2. Stop the new administration building and look to sell it.
    3. Listen to residents.
  87. Stop the build of the new town hall. be more fiscally responsible
  88. Repair Tiny roads especially where the tax money comes from. Residential roads are in bad shape.
  89. More consultation with citizens. Don’t build castles
  90. Be more open, be more fiscally responsible.
  91. To review all expenses and build an appropriate budget, not just increase current budget by a %. • Restore shoreline to 15m rules, stop wasting money on legal fees. • Try to sell assets to reduce our infrastructure debt. Try to sublet parts of new building since current council never listened and went ahead with an extravagant building with too many offices, space and way too expensive, we’ll be paying this building and interest on the build for way too long. • I want a council accountable to its residents.
  92. Road repairs are critical. • Building is happening but it needs to be tweaked because so many employees work from home perhaps the space could bring in more revenue • Open communication • Council meeting should be in the evening so we can all watch • No in-camera meetings unless it involves personnel — internal • Be transparent • Share facts and history.
  93. Keep property tax in line with cost of living
  94. Be responsive and accountable to taxpayers.
  95. Only improve the admin office to what is needed or look at alternatives, i.e., cooperative rental space. Improve the safety on TBRS by speed control measures.
  96. Be less defensive re: council decisions and more open to community involvement. Be more responsible fiscally.
  97. Once and for all put an end to the rhetoric of all Tiny Beaches are public. Acknowledge the Rowntree court decision ended the controversy the province (crown) owned the beaches and thereby public. There are no crown patents along Tiny shoreline. And thereby the established private beaches should be recognized and end the nonsense every election time with misinformation that just adds to our divisiveness in our community. Let’s not [let] the frustrated community members, such as those from Penetanguishene and Midland, take it out on our community for their own council’s mismanagement of their shoreline.
  98. When citizens give feedback take it and act on it rather than ignore and pretend everyone is happy. The entire community said no to the new town hall, and you went ahead and did it anyways. That is blasphemous in a democratic process.
  99. Respect the wishes of the majority of Tiny residents.
  100. Be kinder to the residents. Town halls for open discussions on spending. Listen to residents from the small towns and not just beach residents.
  101. LISTEN TO THEIR CONSTITUENTS
  102. Transparency
  103. Repeal shoreline by-law
  104. Listen to and be fair with all constituents, do not take property rights away from waterfront owners, stop building a palace
  105. Sue the current council for ridiculous spending
  106. Engage the public for their opinions and ideas, not to alienate shoreline owners from everyone else.
  107. Scrap the short-term rental by-law that makes cottage owning unaffordable to working families because we can’t reasonably offset our costs by renting out our cottages part time.
  108. Include the taxpayers in decisions, be open and transparent about what decisions are being made. The way in which the new admin building transpired is totally unacceptable!!
  109. Listen to the residents … avoid separating g beach and country … realize that all residents deserve to enjoy life in Tiny … we live on pensions … which may limit our ability to continue living in our shoreline home … our permanent home now for 24 years, but more of a home base over the past 62 years. If we can live within a budget to remain as residents … let’s hope that the next council can do the same … PS: We are originally small-town Ontario residents … and definitely not big city folks.
  110. A complete and transparent audit of all spending by all departments. A complete re-forecast of 15-year financial projections that are more realistic to the current economic environment.
  111. Stop putting cell towers in natural areas or near any kind of park. The one on the 6th concession at the 17th should never have been approved. It’s on a whip-poor-will colony nesting ground. We are not an urban area. We need to protect the nature we have. I hope the next council advocates for wired infrastructure instead of trying to turn the environment into downtown Toronto.
  112. Listen to the people
  113. Have a website that clearly marks public, private and semi-private beaches. Retract 45m shoreline setback, retract Goessman reserve allowances, and sell administrative building. I would like to see fewer members of council.
  114. Cut back on the “extras” going into the new township offices and use existing office decor. Some of these savings can go back into our roads and returning to a late spring and early fall cutback off the roadside growth. Also, bring back the street sweeping for the whole street not just the corners. There are many other issues that need to be addressed in our township and with the next council.
  115. Manage development to protect the environment in particular the clear cutting of trees.
  116. Control spending and taxes – unbelievable a council can spend $24-28 million on an admin building no one wants or needs. In addition, our taxes have increased 4-fold for no additional services.
  117. Slow down, stop and repurpose the new office.
  118. Absolutely everything!
  119. Not restricting constituents’ rights, not incur more debt
  120. Listen to residents
  121. Be more transparent and honest and focusing on improving Tiny for the betterment of all stakeholders. The new admin building and shoreline by-law is an outrageous use of taxpayer dollars and taking resources away from more important matters such as affordability issues, community services and supports, attracting more business opportunities, collaborating with adjacent townships, and building a better, stronger township with an accountable council.
  122. Be transparent and not ego driven
  123. Leave the beach owners alone. There are people who are wrongly informed of the ownership and this needs to stop. “Beach Rights” on Facebook are harassing the owners. There are some active members in office at the moment, and they are aggressive and spread false information. Beach owners pay much more taxes and support businesses. The private beaches are pristine because the owners keep it that way. The litter in the public areas are filthy. There are no lifeguards, garbage [bin]s, washrooms, etc. on the private beaches. Beach owners have been paying the taxes and upkeep for years and years. We don’t request to use someone’s front lawn for our picnics, and if we did, my goodness that wouldn’t go over to well.
  124. Reduce staff, maintain roads, keep taxes low
  125. Be open, be transparent, be financially responsible, manage staff matters appropriately.
  126. Be open and transparent to all. No hidden agendas. Respect the constituents’ concerns.
  127. Don’t make large decisions without seeking direct input from taxpayers.
  128. Stop spending our money on things this community does not need or want. Listen to residents.
  129. Issues which affect me personally are roads (terrible, fix them), taxes (high), social media (absolutely dreadful), beach issues (no idea how to fix this).
  130. Stop their authoritarian radical ideology.
  131. Lisent to the residents. We didn’t want a new municipality t[office] that is going to cost a huge increase in our taxes. When we don’t even have a facility to treat our sewage. And we still dump it on farmers’ fields
  132. Be responsible stewards of our tax dollars. Revert back to the 15m setback.
  133. Downsize the admin build, support well-regulated and groundwater-friendly aggregates extraction, develop existing shoreline parks so inland residents have good places to go for fun.
  134. Manage the infrastructure deficit in an accountable fashion
  135. Be more fiscally responsible, respect our tax dollars. Remove government overreach.
  136. Listen to the people
  137. Listen to the people
  138. Give serious consideration to the wishes of ratepayers.
  139. Let property owners have a say in important issues!!
  140. Engage citizens more when making huge financial decisions.
  141. Change deputations back to at least 5 minutes and don’t interrupt people as they are speaking.
  142. More fiscally responsible, repeal current shoreline by-law
  143. Anything better, but not with the 5 incumbents
  144. The next council needs to listen to what residents are saying. The new administrative building was not needed at this time.
  145. Rethink the new city hall project.
  146. Not build the new city hall.
  147. Fiscal responsibility aligned with size of township. Open and transparent communication with taxpayers. Consultation with public on critical decisions.
  148. Lighten the STR rules, still have them but make them more accessible. Have more of an online presence to show the good work they’ve been doing. Town halls 2 times per year.
  149. Be open and give all residents an opportunity to express views … not 4:00 pm meetings only … seasonal residents need an opportunity to contribute without being in person.
  150. Keep taxes down.
  151. Restore the 15-metre setback in place of the proposed 45-metre setback in the shoreline by-law.
  152. Remove the 45m shoreline setback by-law
  153. Do their best to preserve our quaint community and providing services … particularly for our children
  154. Be open to listening and responding to the ideas and opinions of constituents living in Tiny.
  155. Listen.
  156. Don’t pander to special interest groups. i.e., pickle ball courts.
  157. Be honest and open about all issues with history of same. No one is better than someone else or better than a different group. All residents should be treated with the same respect. Anyone who thinks differently from this should not be part of our municipal government.
  158. Not build unnecessary buildings. No corruption
  159. I would like a council made up of professionals with proven experience, who do not hide behind AI-generated responses, and who care about indigenous ideals of community and access to land and water.
    1. Not cater to special interests (i.e., Beach Rights) but to do what is best for beaches, farmland, hamlets Farlain Lake, etc.
    2. Pass a ward system for future elections.
    3. Attract businesses to add to a mill rate for taxes.
  160. Open and transparent in all township initiatives. Serve the interests of the entire township and not a single special interest group.
  161. Listen to their taxpayers. Treat their waterfront owners, who make up a huge proportion of their revenue, with respect.
  162. Stop the war against shorefront owners
  163. Listen, communicate and govern in the open. Stop the overreaching by-laws and end the expensive litigation.
  164. Remove current public restrictions at town hall meetings.
  165. Solicit community feedback. Open and honest two-way communication on township priorities. Accountability on expenditures and remove restrictions on public speaking at council meeting. The community deserves a response when issues are brought forward. Minimize the number of closed-door meetings to meetings that are personnel-related or there are valid legal reasons for the secrecy.
  166. This council has to go. Period. They keep raising taxes. Permits to build are now ridiculous. Their mishandling of the shoreline is unacceptable and all they care about is spending millions on a new building that will be empty! Now they even allowed parking in April to Sept. Parking is what brings the wrong people polluting our beaches. Loud parties. Littering our beaches. They all have to go!
  167. Fiscal responsibility; involving community in major decisions and projects; set taxes at or below cost of living
  168. Listen to the people; work collaboratively with residents; nurture trust every single day
  169. Transparency, fiscal responsibility, listen to its constituents
  170. Stop targeting shore communities
  171. Mitigate new TTAC cost. Stop overspending. Stop runaway debt.
  172. Listen to their constituents
  173. Crack down on illegal building and make owners responsible to remove building violations. Have a process to designate heritage districts. Work closer with residents to ensure building permits are granted in a timely matter. Build a wastewater treatment plant.
  174. Leave the beachfront residents alone.
  175. Not acquiesce to the Beach Rights activists an come up with ridiculous shoreline by-law, buying overpriced rocky beach property and pretend all beaches are public. Listen to the residents and be transparent.
  176. Tax relief
  177. Stop building of new administrative office
  178. Listen to people in the community. Building a new Townhall is a huge mistake.
  179. Cancel the dynamic beach by-law, respect property owners’ property rights. Don’t build such an expensive township administrative centre. Build and maintain a better boat launch. Don’t sell parking passes to non-residents.
  180. Build recreation infrastructure. Indoor sport courts/ pickleball.
  181. Listen to constituents. Provide open and accountable oversight. Focus on core services.
  182. Listen to the inputs of taxpayers. Manage the current budget/costs and divest the cost demands of the new build.
  183. By-law review and financial management
  184. Listen to and respect opinions of residents. Communicate with residents’ direction that Council is considering by holding regular Town Halls. In addition, I do not think that members of Council should be posting on public Facebook platforms. Council needs to lead with professionalism and integrity without the mudslinging that has been exhibited this term!
  185. Bring in a new CAO and experienced by-law manager.
  186. Focus on tax affordability, balancing budget, stop wasting money on Tiny Taj Mahal, increase transparency, stop vanity projects.
  187. Communicate with the electorate; review the validity of all expenditures; reduce litigation costs.
  188. Respect voters
  189. Hear and implement only the taxpayers’ priorities above all else while being open to meaningful discussions for setting spending decisions. Taxpayers should have the right to direct Council’s direction through referendums (or show of hands at least) on divisive and expensive projects (think ‘new build’), beach by-laws and governance issues. No more ‘we know better’ shameful attitude.
  190. Listen to taxpayers’ concerns
  191. Concentrate on basic services, fix the roads, provide effective planning control, cooperate more effectively with surrounding municipalities to provide extra services such as libraries and recreation facilities in an economical, effective manner, and control council overheads. Above all, listen to the ratepayers. Tiny is a small, barely economically viable unit and needs to behave in a responsible manner to control costs. Sell off excess infrastructure and apply the receipts to refurbishment of the remaining infrastructure.
  192. Communicate honestly, clearly and effectively
  193. More transparency, streamline building permits. Fewer restrictions on shoreline owners.
  194. Listen to the residents and act in their best interests.
  195. Listen to taxpayers before making major decisions
  196. Stop the build
  197. Be more strict with the people’s behaviour in the gallery during council meetings.
  198. Enforce Short-Term Rental By-law 22-017
  199. Maintain open discussion with residents before making decisions. Properly and fairly manage taxes.
  200. Stop overreach. Reverse beach by-law.
  201. Don’t just listen to complaints, do something about it. • For the many people who bought and rented their cottages, relax some of the rules regarding STR before cottage country real estate goes into the tanker. The present rules are beyond reasonable and to the point of ridiculous! We bought our cottage 12 years ago planning to rent it out from the get-go in order for us to afford the purchase. Now, Tiny has changed the rules. We were taught as children that “You can’t change the rules just because it benefits you.” Apparently, Tiny has never been taught this rule. In the game of “life”, investors such as myself got into “this game” not with dice and a token but with millions of dollars only to realize that we are losing. Those who invested more recently, have already lost. If I had known from the beginning that Tiny was going to impose these STR rules, I would have never invested in such a shortsighted community. • Now, they plan on stricter rules regarding the protection of the waterfront beaches. I think that’s great. My question is, “How can someone be concerned about waterfront, yet allow so many septic systems on the waterfront side!” This community reminds me of “Green Acres.” • Everything they do makes me shake my head in disbelief. Nothing is efficient. Nothing makes sense. If I didn’t have to pay capital gains for selling, I would invest my money into a more welcoming community.
  202. I would like them to STOP allowing more wireless infrastructure. No more cell towers, no more smart water metres, and no more public Wi-Fi. IARC is reviewing all wireless with high priority right now because two important studies (one by the American government and the largest in the world) found cell phones and cell towers are conclusively causing cancer in animals below Canada’s Safety Code 6 levels.
  203. Complete the new admin building as soon as possible.
  204. Respond to voice of concerned people and be more open.
  205. Fiscal responsibility
  206. No under the table dealings
  207. To be more open minded, balanced and inclusive of all views.
  208. Figure out how to minimize the financial burden of the spending on the new municipal building.
  209. Everything that Karen Z’s group is promising
  210. Listen to taxpayers
  211. Manage finances better to ensure Tiny stays affordable. Sell the new admin building to reduce massive debt.
  212. Listen to the taxpayers’ concerns.
    1. Drop the “shoreline protection” pretences and related over-regulations on properties on waterfront.
    2. Find a sensible solution for minimizing the financial damage from the contractual arrangements for construction of the overblown municipal structures.
  213. Have reasonable common sense. Stop harassing those who disagree with their malfeasance. Stop wasting our money on needless litigation.
  214. Acknowledge and work with the people on the new build
  215. Revoke the proposed shoreline by-law and stop wasting money in legal fees.
  216. More open and accountable governing, tax reduction, respecting property ownership rights.
  217. Focus on all parts of the Township and build a sense of community instead of the Beach Rights agenda which applies to a few limited areas and pits waterfront owners against the rest of the population. Ensure that by-laws are appropriate and enforceable without having to spend our tax dollars defending them in court. Be fiscally responsible rather than purchasing an overpriced $4.5 million inferior waterfront in an area that already has adequate waterfront accesses to serve the residents. Did the Township survey those residents to find out what their needs were? • Review the budget and be fiscally responsible.
  218. Listen to constituents instead of bullying through
  219. People in the township can afford to pay for additional services themselves. Keep municipal services to a minimum. Everything the government touches balloons into a costly project.
  220. Stop spending on projects that pander to a minority of residents, e.g., pickle ball court. Ignore special interest groups that want tax money.
  221. TRANSPARENCY … in all areas & levels of council, board reports, financials, development etc. • We do NOT ever want another project like the Township Office build to be rammed through and use / steal / redirect our tax dollars to defend it when challenged … not to mention the anticipated large tax increase to cover it. • My Tiny tax bill is more than we paid in the big city.
  222. Have truly open discussions before making decisions.
  223. Be accountable, tell the truth, be open about where they want to spend our tax dollars. Listen to the people. Stop being secretive and meeting behind closed doors. Involve the taxpayers in any decisions to be made regarding large expenditures.
  224. Scale back the new municipal office build to drastically reduce its cost and keep tax increases in line with cost of living.
  225. It is not about providing “value for money.” It is about prioritizing what Tiny needs most. Yes, it is very difficult to accept that our current municipal government in Tiny has committed us to this huge expense since the last election. But a newly elected team needs to go in and determine how we can mitigate the damage on our residents. And work towards improving our future, not just one sector of Tiny but all residents whether full time or seasonal. • Our new mayor of Tiny may not be able to fix all of the damage that has been done but will hopefully do his utmost to gain our trust, and believe that we, in Tiny, can become the community we continue to love.
  226. Ongoing open communication and engagement
  227. Stop wasting tax dollars on ridiculous expenditures. Open dialogue with respect!!!
  228. Not spend an outrageous amount on a huge, unnecessary office building.
  229. Hold community discussion forums before spending discretionary funds.
  230. Throw out the Dynamic Beach By-law. • Stop the Administration Building Build if still possible. • Work with Tay, Midland, Penetanguishene, Simcoe County and the Province to consolidate services to lower property taxes. • Replace the CAO. • Review all processes with an end goal to reduce property tax. • When taxpayers demand change. listen and act. They work for us, not the other way around. If they are not sure, hold a plebiscite and allow the taxpayers to say yes or no.
  231. Listen, and act according to citizens’ concerns.
  232. Find a solution to the mess of the admin building. Other purposes perhaps. • Honesty • Realize they work for the people, not against the people. It is not their vision and priorities that count, it is ours.
  233. Stop attacking property rights. Somehow get out of the idiotic townhall debacle.
  234. Manage the budget with taxpayers in mind.
    1. Cancel the damn Golf Tournament.
    2. Have one council member attend one Tiny “community association” board meeting once a year to take the pulse of our township.
  235. Be more transparent and democratic.
  236. Stop spending so much on lawyers. Stop buying private beaches and manage the public ones better.
  237. Kill the new township admin office. Work on things they ran for and were elected for.
  238. Be fiscally MORE responsible and NOT build the new Municipal Administration Building. • RESCIND shoreline by-law • Leave the Goessman Reserves as is.
  239. Be open to what the residents actually want. NOT what they want.
  240. Listen to the concerns of the taxpayers. • 2. Definitely reduce our taxes. For starters take off the tax increase put on the 2026 tax instalments. Especially for those where there are no sidewalks, streetlights, snow clearance, tree maintenance and road repair. (It appears that Tiny Council forgot that there are residents and part-time/seasonal residents who privately pay for snow clearance, tree branch maintenance and road repair.) 3. The next council should recognize that no new additional shoreline laws/by-laws are (were) needed. It would make life a living nightmare for many if not everyone. • 4. Next council should show respect towards us and immediately stop the construction of the new administration building. That’s not how our hard-earned tax dollars should be spent. And the next council should make sure that the taxes in 2026 did not include the tax hike that was to cover the cost of the new building. If it did, then take it off.
  241. Resolve the access/understanding of beach use once and for all — it’s been going on for over 40 YEARS!!! • Bring back opportunity for public forums to better understand significant implementation of expenditures that will impact tax increases beyond the cost of living.
  242. To be transparent and honest
  243. Spend tax dollars responsibly.
  244. Stop wasting money on the new build Taj Mahal
  245. Listen to taxpayers • Stop in-camera meetings • Negotiate solutions and stop wasting money on lawsuits
  246. Be responsible to the taxpayers
  247. Open, engaged and transparent governing
  248. Keep taxes down, focus on maintaining roads, reduce the number of jobs in the township office
  249. Address the ballooning cost of the new admin building
  250. Transparency
  251. Stop the overreach, stop spending money on activities we don’t want or need
  252. Listen to ratepayers
  253. Use more cost-effective means of building town infrastructure.
  254. Revoke the Shoreline By-law, scale back capital expenditures, and manage the township more efficiently and effectively and transparently.
  255. More honest and open communication
  256. Be responsive to concerns of ALL taxpayers. Effectively and efficiently provide services and maintain infrastructure.
  257. Consult with residents and taxpayers more effectively.
  258. The complete opposite of what this runaway train of doofus yahoos has done for the past term.
  259. Rescind or change the Shoreline By-law at least for non-dynamic beach properties.
  260. More proactively protect the environment. Create laws around taking down trees.
  261. Listen to the taxpayers and show some respect as they work for us
  262. Listen to the people. Be more accountable for spending. We do not need a fancy town building.
  263. Be financially responsible and remove unnecessary and unwarranted regulations
  264. Reverse the 45-metre setback by-law
  265. Reduce the new admin building burden on the taxpayer. • Increase annual municipal taxes no more than the rate of inflation. • Be openly responsive to the needs of residents.
  266. Listen to residents.
  267. Hold off on tax increases. Stop the admin office building construction.
  268. Be more accountable, open and listen to the taxpayers
  269. Recognize and respect shoreline owner property and rights to maintain and improve land.
  270. Protect the shoreline.
  271. Find relief for taxpayers by finding alternative uses for the unaffordable large build project. Ideas — renting to tenants, change or adjust the immense size of the building. There were feasible alternatives to the size and scope of it. It’s not an affordable use of $$$ to the small population of Tiny taxpayers. There are other priorities: water main infrastructure repairs, road maintenance, septage management.
  272. More intelligent, accountable voices for tiny. not for themselves.
  273. Represent the wishes of the constituents, not the council’s own agenda. Actually be accountable and deliver against their platforms and promises.
  274. Be more responsive to taxpayers’ concerns and resolve issues in an open, transparent and honest manner.
  275. Listen to residents. • Lease a large part of the new admin building to a company providing medical services to cover the costs instead of expecting taxpayers to pay for it. • Have different rules for different types of shoreline properties instead of a blanket 45 metres above the 178 high water mark that is inappropriate for most shoreline properties. • Dispense with the money-wasting legal battles and find reasonable compromise positions on the issues. For example, respect private beach ownership while requiring private owners to ensure the public can walk past their property along the waterfront. • Expand parking, garbage and washroom facilities for the public beaches where needed. • Dispense with the highly flawed Goessman Reserves once and for all.
  276. Cut their own salaries by 20 to 30% and cut staff by 20 to 30%. Replace CAO, Planning and Building Dept. and Enforcement, as well and Roads and Maintenance heads and directors with new hires at lower pay scales. Why pay top rates for incompetence and arrogance when you can get same for a 20 to 30% discount?
  277. Stop the insanity
  278. Stop wasting money, be fair to taxpayers regarding tax increases. • Stop shoreline managing control by government by charging permits for repairs or improvements to shoreline. • Getting permits for a walkway on your property to make it safer for seniors is coming if they have their way. I want to manage my own property. I am a senior.
  279. Stop the re-build, substantially reduce the size and cost of the bureaucracy
  280. Be open ahead of the decisions they make. Listen to constituents. Building a new, terrible expensive, Township office in the face of widespread opposition was unforgivable.
  281. Reduce staff. Sell land. Remove debt.
  282. Be respectful of homeowners and taxpayers; keep taxes low, not be in the business of purchasing property.
  283. More accountable and listen to taxpayer feedback. Better upfront communication on direction.
  284. Be more fiscally responsible and undo the ridiculous policies that came from the current council.
  285. Provide opportunities where the councillors have an opportunity to listen to the taxpayers
  286. Council needs to understand that these open public beach rules are what will destroy our beaches. Day trippers and renters come. Pollute. Smoke drugs. Leave broken glass on beach. Have zero respect for beach front owners and think that because the current council promotes this ideal of everyone is welcome, they can do what they want. Tiny has a very low tax base other than property tax. We pay ridiculous tax and non-shoreline owners and visitors think they own the beach and we will clean it up. Charge every shoreline owner $100,000 to own the beach (while allowing anyone to walk along the shoreline) and you have 20 years of tax increases. The beach stays clean. The troublemakers don’t come. Tiny is preserved.
  287. Accountable transparency, listen to their constituents not bully them
  288. Be open and transparent. Direct staff to help residents not to stonewall them, e.g., as has happened with high water levels at Farlain Lake.
  289. Transparency.
  290. More responsible spending and actual listening to their constituents. Also better respect for all constituents, regardless of full time or part-time residents.
  291. Listen
  292. Provide open, responsible and fiscally conservative government.
  293. More accountable.
  294. Remove new shoreline by-law and keep taxes low – less control from council
  295. Communicate respectfully and more often
  296. Stop shoreline-restricting new rule. But keep on building new municipal building to replace current 60-year-old one.
  297. They should not put forth the new shoreline rules. They also need to scale back the council office proposal.
  298. Be accountable to the people who vote for you
  299. Listen to the public. We don’t want more quarries. We didn’t want the extravagant new municipal building.
  300. Complete the new admin building and don’t pay any delay penalties
  301. Provide mature and meaningful communication with all residents both seasonal and permanent.
  302. Open, accountable fiscally prudent and listen to community input
  303. Be more transparent and listening to people’s objections.
  304. Listen to the constituents. Be forthright and open in all dealings
  305. Get expenses under control
  306. Stop engaging taxpayers in legal battles
  307. Stick to your promises. Any big decisions that are not a campaign issue should be brought to the public for referendum.
  308. Spend taxpayers’ money frugally and wisely. Stop trying to replicate Trump: ballroom synonymous with new Township Office.
  309. Listen to the residents and not have hidden agendas.
  310. Transparent government. Support for diverse growing population.
  311. Repeal the shoreline by-law
  312. Be responsible financially.
  313. Think!
  314. Listen to the property owners. Get funding from Province for drainage issues. Sell the new admin building, introduce hybrid work policy, fix up interior current admin build, tell Tatham to move out and put Public Works downstairs. Leave fire chief at firehall. Leave water staff on Conc 8. Leave rec staff on Hwy 93. Scrap the 45m shoreline by-law and put to 15m. Look at STR by-law and amend it so it is fair and runs cost neutral. Fire the CAO. Signage for private shoreline property to respect private property.
  315. Listen to the taxpayers.
  316. More public consultation. Open the books quarterly with projections. Stop being belligerent to residents. Be nice.
  317. Listen to and represent all citizens. The current council is awful. Residents don’t want the new admin building and don’t want such an unreasonable shoreline by-law, but Council is deaf. I have never been so incensed by Tiny’s governance.
  318. Talk to and listen to residents. When we said we didn’t want new municipal offices no one listened. They will pay the price.
  319. More open communications. Public input for large costly projects. Some evening council meetings.
  320. Immediately scale back the plans for the administrative building to save taxpayer dollars, scrap the Shoreline By-Law, create a tree protection by-law, end the spreading of raw sewage in Tiny, promote renewable energy use in Tiny, host regular in-person and virtual town halls, foster a culture of transparency and trust.
  321. Listen. Stop with the overreaching by-laws. Stop wasting money on things we don’t want and can’t afford.
  322. Listen and respond to the community. No more useless surveys that ignore the results. Beach residents are treated like cash cows. I am not wealthy, although a portion of residents are but not the majority of us.
  323. Spend more wisely, return shoreline by-law previous setting.
  324. LISTEN TO THOSE WHOM THEY ARE ELECTED TO SERVE.
  325. If possible, cut our losses and sell the current municipal building.
  326. Not enough room here to answer!
  327. Start working on ideas for the public to have better access to the beaches and more access points for boat launching. Enforcement of speed limits necessary with more and more delivery vehicles disobeying posted signs. There is a need for a clear firearms discharge by-law especially in shoreline residential areas like other Townships have.
  328. Business oriented
  329. Communicate effectively, work collaboratively with residents, reduce staff, limit tax increases to the rate of inflation, dispose of the new TTAC, earn our trust
  330. Consult with taxpayers instead of making own decisions
  331. Accountable lower taxes
  332. Kill short term rental by-law and replace with $100 “license” like in Quebec
  333. STOP the BUILD
  334. Listen to the public. Fix the roads and stop building monuments to themselves.
  335. Be very transparent. Listen to taxpayers. No closed-door council meetings!!
  336. Remove the new shoreline by-law and provide information and support for residents to care for the shoreline.
  337. Treat constituents who disagree with their policies more respectfully. Be more open and transparent about council decisions. The new admin building is excessive and not needed for our small tax base. It doesn’t really serve the residents’ needs. We need a walk-in medical clinic.
  338. Cancel the new shoreline by-law
  339. Cancel new municipal office build, listen to voters.
  340. Accountability
  341. Listen to the voters
  342. Stop … or reduce the build. Revise the shoreline by-law … it exceeds the Township’s rights to oversee an individual’s property rights.
  343. Waterfront owners need to have our rights protected. We pay more than our fair share of taxes.
  344. I did not like the way the new building was handled nor the tax increases.
  345. Listen to the majority of taxpayers. Respond to our needs as taxpayers.
  346. Change the shoreline by-law back to what it was
  347. Stop the construction and terminate the new administration building.
  348. Listen to the residents
  349. More events
  350. Nothing
  351. More town halls
