SPECIAL MEETING OF COUNCIL
Thursday July 30, 2026 – 3:00pm
The Mayor (Chair), Deputy Mayor and Councillors Brunelle, Helowka and Walma were in attendance.
Senior members of staff were in attendance as were representatives of MHBC Planning and Barriston Law. The meeting moved into confidential/closed session to deal with a proposed or pending acquisition or disposition of land by the municipality.
The subject properties were those recently acquired by the Township comprised of approximately 8.2 acres and 207 metres of shoreline (Blocks B and C on Registered Plan 1371) located at the intersections of Champlain Road, Clearwater Crescent, and Sawlog Point Road.
After coming out of closed session, Council unanimously adopted a resolution that “Staff and legal counsel proceed as directed in closed session regarding a proposed or pending acquisition or disposition of land by the Municipality or local board and advice that is subject to solicitor client privilege including communications necessary for that purpose for Blocks B and C of Plan 1371.”
It should be noted that the August 5 Regular Meeting of Council includes an agenda item M1 being a report by MHBC dated July 31, 2026 which states that “Council has provided direction respecting a development concept for the Sawlog Point property. Implementation of that direction requires several subsequent administrative, planning and land disposition steps before Part 2 of Block B lands can be marketed for sale and ultimately developed” and that the “purpose of this report is to implement Council’s direction respecting the preferred development concept for the Sawlog Point property by declaring Part 2 of Block “B” on the draft reference plan attached as Appendix “A” surplus to the needs of the Township, authorizing the administrative steps necessary to facilitate its future disposition…”
