PARTIAL REPORT ON COUNCIL
April 11, 2005
Committee of the Whole Meeting: 9:00 a.m. – ?:?? p.m.
Regular Evening Meeting: 7:00 p.m. – 8:53 p.m.
All Members of Council present.

2005 BUDGET: The Treasurer, John Theriault, presented the Township’s budget for 2005.
The Residential tax rate (including municipality, county and education) increases 2.77% from 2004.
Water charges (capital and operating) are unchanged at $ 600 and $ 200 respectively. The Waste Collection fee rises from $ 130 to $ 143.
The amount of taxes collected will increase by 4.21%, made up of
Municipal -- 6.44%
County -- 4.89%
Education - 1.32%.

However, mainly because new residential properties have been added to the rolls this year, this translates into a tax rate increase of 2.77% .The full details of Tiny’s budget for 2005 will be added to the database on the Federation’s website – http://www.tinycottager.org -- toward the end of next week.

COUNCIL PASSES INTERIM CONTROL BY-LAW RE SITE 41: At the evening meeting of Council, Council passed an Interim Control By-law that prohibits the construction or development of a waste disposal site at Site 41. In making this move, Council pointed to changes in provincial policy and legislation in the decade since the issuance of a Certificate of Approval for Site 41 pursuant to the Environmental Protection Act. They also referred to the 2003-2004 Report of the Environmental Commissioner of Ontario, which recommended that the Ministry of the Environment review the Approval. The intention of the Interim Control By-law is to allow time for studies of Site 41 in the context of recent legislative changes.For the full News Release on the subject, click HERE(pdf file).
