REPORT ON COUNCIL
September 24, 2001
Committee of the Whole began at approximately 10:00, at the Township Road Complex (220 Concession 9 East), and continued into the afternoon. The regular evening meeting of Council was relatively brief, commencing just after 7:00 p.m., and adjourning at approximately 8:15 p.m.
RURAL POSTAL CODE CHANGES
Patrick Doyle of Canada Post presented a deputation. Canada Post proposes to introduce new postal codes for customers currently being served by RR2 and RR3 Penetanguishene.
It was noted that the objective should be for all municipalities in Simcoe County to work together to implement smoking control by-laws at the same time, with a target date of May 2002.
GEORGIAN BAY SNOWRIDERS
There was discussion of a proposal by Georgian Bay Snowriders to obtain a long-term arrangement for use of Tiny Trails.
MAPPING AND TERANET
John Theriault presented an administrative report concerning the need to harmonize the standards of work being carried out by the Teranet mapping project with the Township-initiated property inventory project.
RESERVES AND RESERVE FUNDS
John Theriault presented an administrative report recommending that reserve funds should be increased to the $5 million level. There was discussion of the manner in which this could be achieved, including the possibility of special property tax assessments.
It was decided that further review was required.
TINY TRAILS BRIDGES EVALUATION CONTRACT AWARDED
Five quotes having been received, a quote was accepted in the amount of $19,800 from R.J. Robinson Associates to evaluate the condition of Tiny Trails bridges.
